"And because I love this life
I know I shall love death as well.
The child cries out when
From the right breast the mother
Takes it away, in the very next moment
To find in the left one
Its consolation."
----Rabindranath Tagore,
from Gitanjali (Bengali collection of English poems)
"Consolation" by Steven Lavaggi

ReplyDeleteThat is so true, both metaphorically and literally!
ReplyDeleteYears ago I read many Tagore poems, this one is new to me. It's beautiful. I hope you are doing well; I noticed it was posted at 1:00am. I was fast asleep dreaming at that time.
