About six months ago, a rock flew up from the wheel of a large truck in front of me on the highway, popped on my windshield right in front of my left eye, and within days a crack began moving across the window. Driving was made difficult, as I had to scrunch down to see under the crack, or sit up very tall to see over it.
Last week the crack had traveled 2/3 of the way across the windshield. I called every auto window replacement company within a hundred mile radius for quotes. I carry liability insurance on the car but even if I still had full coverage I would have had to pay the deductible. Then I saw a comment on a site I frequent that is a local online garage sale site. The commenter was expressing appreciation for the great work replacing her windshield. I called that company for a quote. Not only was the quote almost a hundred dollars less than all the others, he comes to the customer. I made an appointment and Monday morning the window man came here to my apartment, replaced my windshield, and was on his way within an hour and a half.
Now I hop into my little red car and don't have to scrunch down to see out the window.
It is the little things in life I am appreciating.

That was a lucky break you saw that comment!
I'm glad you got it fixed and that you found such a good deal. Around here they give tickets for "defective vehicile" if windshields have really bad cracks.
Glad that you can sit comfortably again! If only everything in life could be sorted out that easily!
I love that certain businesses really think about prospective customers. A mobile windshield service - great! Cool how you serendipitously found him
I've had the travelling crack. It's annoying and makes driving uncomfortable. Glad yours is fixed
Seeing clearly is much for which to be grateful. I'm glad that worked out for you
I dislike riding the freeways because rocks always seem to be flying. Glad you got yours fixed for a better price!
Liz, Reading that comment saved me so much time and money.
Jeanie, I can understand now that the crack interferes with vision needed for safe driving.
RC, I second that! If only.
Abby, the crack was a nuisance. It is amazing how much better the view is without it.
Hilary, to have a problem solved in an effortless manner like this one was is a huge blessing.
Debby, I didn't know the heat in a car with windows up would cause the crack to lengthen daily. I could watch it move across the window!
So glad you were able to get that fixed more reasonably AND he was able to come to you! Around here, it doesn't take long for that windshield to crack like crazy, from the heat. Been there, done that... not fun.
Here even the smallest chip in your windscreen is considered to make your vehicle unroadworthy and attracts a serious fine. But, on the bright side, my insurance co (and I think all others) offers free chip repair and windscreen replacement if it can't be repaired. Rural dirt road dwellers like me usually have at least one chip a year. Just highlights the differences in where we live, huh?
Hi CiCi. Unexpected expenses like that are never fun bt it's great when you know you got a good deal AND the guy comes to you. Outstanding. Safe travels in your little red car.
When I looked back at your posts and saw the apartment building it reminded me of my mother's senior community-- Same brick, and rood color. You could be neighbors! That makes me smile-- for both of you.
Hope you have some fun plans in store for Labor Day weekend. Enjoy, xo jj
We had a windshield replaced in Boulder, and it was a pleasure to see how much better it was to drive around in it with a good windshield. Glad you got yours fixed! :-)
I need to replace my windshield due to a large crack but it is across the upper windshield & does not affect my road view. So I will leave it "as is" for the moment...
I think you are turning into what the New Spiritualists would call a "powerful manifestor!"
Glad that you got a reasonable quote and that they fixed the windscreen with so little fuss.
Nasty thing to have happened though.

very cool...glad you were able to get it done both good and cheap...have had a few of those in my day...
Nice. On a trip we took to Sacramento when we were ready to head back home, we saw that one of our side windows had been demolished. We were lucky enough to find a guy who underbid everyone and came to us. He did a great job and I was so grateful.
That's awesome! You did the research and didn't find quite what worked for you. And then this deal sort of falls in your lap. Don't you love when life works out that way?
So happy to now there are still folks who offer real service and don't over charge.
Been away and am catching up.
Nice post! I was actually looking for historic window replacement when I found your article but I have definitely had the same exact thing happen to me. Thank you for sharing your story with us.
