For All You Golf Fans

My kids and their spouses and my grandkids golf. Some of my friends too. The two grandsons play very well. Before I had kids I did golf some and did some archery and was bowling often. The only sport I played while raising my kids was tennis. I could play tennis all day if I didn't have to work. But I would play real early in the morning and go home and get ready for work, maybe one morning a week. Can't find anyone to play tennis with here yet. One friend who golfs each week does play tennis but she doesn't have time for both. There is a bowling alley in town but it is full all the time. So right now the only activities for me are bingo, dominoes, and cards. Ha. My heart and waistline are craving more.

You play tennis??? I'm impressed! I'd probably kill myself trying, or break a hip.

Any kids in the neighborhood? Perhaps you could recruit one.

Over here, golf is not a sport for normal people - the kit is expensive, clubs are exclusive and expensive to join. Some still exclude women!

My town has a fair number of tennis players, who make use of the free courts in the park. Much better, IMO!

Was never good at real golf. Could never drive worth a crap. If there was any body of water, as soon as I swing *splash*

Ms A, actually I am athletic, the kind of person you want on your baseball team!

RC, we could have a lengthy discussion about golf being for normal people, Ha. That is a surprise the golf clubs are able to exclude women.

Brian, interesting to know you played golf. Do you still have golf clubs?

Adam, you crack me up. You should write a post about your golfing experiences.

I've never been a golfer - takes too long!
I didn't know you were such a tennis player. My husband and I played a LOT before we had kids. I'm sure we're terrible now.
Maybe you could look into a bowling league?

My partner and daughters play golf here in the UK and love it! Me? I don't. :D

My main physical activity is swimming. I swim laps at the local pool. I'm the youngest guy there and the older ladies swim circles around me.

I gave up golf a few years ago. More to the point my knees gave up. Still miss it but I refuse to play and drive around in a cart. Like you, I must find an alternative form of exercise. Easier said than done sometimes, huh?

The real problem with tennis is you need a partner who is willing to play at the same level! :-)

I wonder if there's some way you could leave word with those who own the tennis court that you're looking for someone to play with.

The sport of bowling must be experiencing a boom. I bowl on a couple of leagues, but have a hard time finding a place to bowl just for fun in between leagues. Most don't have open bowling outside of work hours until after 9:00 pm.

Abby, I like tennis because there is no set schedule, don't have to be somewhere at a set time, can play at the last minute when I have someone willing to play. Bowling league would be possible but would have to fit into my already tight schedule.

Joey, good that your partner and daughters have a sport they can share.

Stephen, interesting that we all have certain sports we gravitate toward.

The things that keep us from participating fully in some sports! As I age I find it more difficult for some things but I am still pretty coordinated.

DJan, I actually like playing tennis with someone who plays better than I do, maybe the better player would like someone even better too.

Hilary, I guess I could put an ad in the the town paper.

Terri, way back in the dark ages when I was in high school bowling was such a popular sport and for many years after that too. I do like reading about your bowling league.

That's the problem with competition or team sports — you have to find someone to play with. I like bicycling cause it's fun to go alone or with company, and you can cover a lot of ground and see the sites. It also saves on gas money cause you can exercise while doing errands.
