Please Don't Eat The Daisies

For some reason, beginning with Mother's Day, my daughter has flowers sent me me via FTD. A large black box arrives every other month with a bouquet and vase. Each delivery is different flowers. Sort of like the Flower of the every-other-month club.

This month the flowers are Gerber Daisies. I like the photo with the darknesss around the flowers. This photo was taken without the house lights on and the blinds are down.

The flowers are delivered at a young stage so they last a long time. It is a pleasure to unpack the flowers and arrange in the vase, but seeing them each day is a blessing. I hope she knows how much the flowers perk up my little apartment but mostly how much they invigorate my spirit.

Having fresh daisies in the house makes me feel like I am living a Doris Day or Donna Reed life.
Do any of you remember who they were?

Doris Day - What a fabulous woman!

Donna Reed - I only know of her because of the reference to her in "Little Shop of Horrors".

Regular flowers is a great idea, isn't it? Are the vases different each time too, or do they build into a matching set?

Yeah, I remember... I can even still sing the song: Please, please... don't eat the daisies... don't eat the daisies, please.

Sometimes those simple things make a big difference, no? I've been known to buy flowers for myself, just to have them around.

It will date me, but I remember Doris Day and Donna Reed among other oldie, but goodie two shoes stars. The gerbera daisies are so perfect too, it is an appropriate link to two ladies who were so "perfect." It is a great idea for your daughter to send you flowers so often.

Such a nice thing to do! Your daisy pictures are really nice in natural light like that. And yes, I certainly remember Doris Day and Donna Reed. Just saying their names makes their faces pop into my memory.

Ms A, I think I miscalculated, the flowers have been coming every month, not every other month! Doris Day was such a peppy gal.

RC, so glad you are a fan of Doris Day also. I didn't watch much television as a kid and the family shows seemed so foreign to me, nothing like the family I was born into, that I couldn't relate to them anyway.

Cricket, keep singing my friend. The flowers last so long, much longer than flowers I had bought in the past, that there is only a few days without the flowers and then there is a new delivery.

R.J., it's okay to date yourself. I for one am glad I had the opportunity to appreciate the artists and musicians of years gone by. So many things have changed today and it is nice to have been born in the simpler times, the more wholesome times. Yes the same things were going on but it wasn't forced on us all the time back then.

DJan, It is really nice to have fresh flowers around all the time. I put some in the bathroom, and sometimes in my bedroom too. Same for me, the names Doris Day and Donna Reed make me smile.

What a nice thing to do! I adore having flowers in the house, but usually I have to buy my own!

Jeanie, That's right, you are a reader too. Glad you remember the two great ladies.

Abby, yes, my daughter knows how much I like flowers. I lived with her and her family for almost two years before venturing out on my own again about ten years ago, and I enjoyed gardening in her tea rose garden.

Debby, maybe I should try growing daisies here.

Brian, yes, it is a treat for me. My daughter is a generous soul.

Shammickite, fresh flowers in the house perks up the place. I rarely buy them, so it means more that my daughter is seeing that flowers are in my place this year.

I remember both actresses. I never really liked the ever-wholesome Doris Day, but I did think Donna Reed was hot, way back when I was a kid watching the Donna Reed Show.

Doris Day was interviewed on NPR this year (good interview).

What thoughtful gift from your girl. A Mother's Day present which lasts though the whole year.

I remember both Doris Day and Donna Reed very well. Other actresses I associate with them were Jane Wyatt from Father Knows Best and Loretta Young.
