I hope someday you'll join us, and the world will be as one. "

Wake Up, Little Susie

Across the street is old train depot that is now a restaurant.
Music of all kinds was part of my childhood. I was singing Everly Brothers songs for years. It was a treat to be in the town they lived in as children and see the small house they called home. Shenanhoah, Iowa pays tribute to the Everly Brothers. And why not? The Everly Brothers were influential in the music world for many other musicians. In their seventies now, they still perform as backup singers and write music.

I love the Everly Brothers. I saw them in their reunion concert at the Royal Albert Hall, London after they'd split up years. It was really emotional. Beautiful harmonies.

We had the 45 of Wake up little Suzie when I was a kid, and I used to play it a lot! Had a good guitar riff to it.

Wonder what happened to it...

I was a big fan of the Everly Brothers. When I was a kid I owned most of their records. Such great harmony.

From back when artists really had to scrape and have real talent to "make it". I'm sure we had some Everly Brothers 45's!

Last night (will be rebroadcast) the Gershwin Prize event for Carole King at the White House was broadcasted on PBS.
One of the tribute songs was "Crying in the Rain" sung by Billy Joel and James Taylor. Carole and Howard Greenfield wrote it for the Everly Brothers. I did not know they were from Iowa. great post and pics.

How great to be able to do something that they loved so much they made it a career and are still active in their "retirement" years.

Wow, that house has like no windows! It seems so many musicians come from "humble" beginnings. I think there are many talented people out there, but it takes a lot of drive and guts to make it in that business.

That was a fun song and part of history. LOVE that the depot lives on in another way.

I had the great joy of seeing them perform .. well gee... it's already ten years ago, now. They were a part of the Simon and Garfunkel Old Friends tour and they were as wonderful as ever.. as were S&G.

Oh yes, I loved these guys! My sisters and I would sing "Wake Up Little Suzie" to our kid brother to get him up in the morning. He didn't like it but we had fun.

Yes I recall that group and song very well Music has a calming effect when chips are down as they say and it's no surprise that music is a part of many humble folks even today.
These days I sing to help with my health issues. It brings positive flow of energy into my body.
