This is actually a cake, not a sewing basket. Isn't this darling?
I found out about fondant. Where have I been? While researching more about fondant I came upon some amazing concoctions using fondants.

These are all cakes. A-Maz-Ing.
My mother turns 91 today so any of these fun cakes would be appreciated by her, but I think she would like the sewing kit cake the best. Happy Birthday, Mom.

They ARE amazing! I have a former neighbor that does cakes along these lines. She's good at it. LOVE the Chihuahua! Sure would be hard to cut into those masterpieces!
It is amazing what people can do with a cake. My wife has done some pretty good ones over the years - probably her best was a Jurassic Park one, complete with jeep.
Lucky you to still have your mom around to wish her a happy birthday! I also hope she has a great one. Those cakes were a real treat, so to speak. How cool! :-)

I agree with Mrs. A above-it would be hard to cut into these cakes. I love that artistic efforts come in so many forms.
Those are cakes? I can't believe it! Truly amazing. Especially that little ratty dog. Can you imagine cutting his head off and having it looking at you from your plate! Could you take a bite????

These cakes truly are amazing! I've heard of fondant, but don't know anything about it. A friend of mine is a "cake artist" and loves the stuff!
That chihuahua looks freakishly real! I think you'd enjoy the Cake Wrecks blog. They feature beautiful cakes like this on Sundays (like this one one but they show how bakers mangle cake orders the rest of the week. The commentary is a hoot, also.

omg these are awesome....cole enjoyed them...he is sitting here on my lap...he was watching the elephants with me...he wants the mt dew one for his birthday now...smiles.....the dog looks unbelieveably real...
I'm on Facebook with a cake artist. She posts some amazing photos, but nothing like that dog. I couldn't eat that one. The corn though, that would be a fun cake to cut into.
My husband's mother is 91 and still attempting to live on her own. Hope your's is doing ok.
