Growing Old And Glad Of It

Growing older is better than the alternative. I just spent time with my mother and she has a difficult time getting things done for herself and navigating in her wheelchair. At this stage in my life, I am so grateful for my health and my peaceful life. Keeping things simple has become my way of life. There is joy in so much in my life surrounding me each day.

Enjoy your good health and joy!

I don't mind the getting older part, it's the falling apart that gets me.

I so agree, Cici. My parents both died in their 50s. I think that has given me an even greater appreciation of this time in my life.

Wise words to live by. It's difficult when we see our parents struggling. Hugs to you, CiCi.

But even though your mom is like that I bet she values her life. :)

When I see my (frail) parents now, it makes me worry about what's ahead for me. I like your attitude better.

I like it. You are clearly livin' the dream. Check out the new Terminally Ill song on my blog. It's called Box of Wine. You're gonna love it!

A belated Welcome Home CiCi!!! So glad you had a good flight and a nice time with your Mom-- The two of you look beautiful together.

I'm off to visit my mom again November 1st and look forward to it. I don't have an iPod but it sounds tempting to get for the trip home.

Hope Lola is relaxed that you're home again-- I'm sure she missed you a lot.

Wishing you a wonderful week and hope you're getting back into your sleep schedule too.

So true, CiCi! Things may not be the way I'd like them to be -the house, the bills, irritations from a myriad of things, the aches and pains which vary in intensity from day to day -royal annoyances at times, any or all of them are. But then I think of my Dad, who died 68 years ago the 25th of this month, just 17 days after I was born so we never knew each other and I remember a very good friend of mine who died 24 years ago this past September at the age of almost 44 and a guy from my high school graduating class who left us 10 years ago and a very old, dear friend who I lost just this past June -each of those to cancer. My Mom died 33 years ago on October 6th -of cancer too -at the age of 69 -which is not, by the standards then nor is it now, really considered "old." So many just of cancer alone and so many other losses -suicides, of all things took away my neighbor's son at the age of 28 and my cousin when he was only 35 and for what reason, no one is sure but such losses, and the pain they brought to their families is truly tragic. So regardless of how I'm feeling from day to day, what big or small problems are knocking on my door, as long as I am still able to wake up, to move around a bit (albeit it often much slower than the day before), that I can still see (as long as I put my glasses on) and I can hear most things but if I can't, I can always ask to have it repeated or for the person to speak louder, can't I? Even things like that are still good things. And then, there are these two beautiful little beings that have both entered my life beginning 9 years ago for one and 6 years ago for the other and what would I be missing if I weren't here with them regardless of the mostly petty problems life brings us day-to-day. That we are still able to experience them and recognize them -still much, much better than that alternative!

I must tllyou that my biggest worry is to help Buddy get accepted in a world of seniors. HE'S BAREKY 40 BUT HE NEEDS TO BE A PART OF A COMMUNITY THAT ALLOWS HIM TO SHARE HIS LOVE FOR ALL SORTS OF
ACTIVITIES HE LOVES.

You have such an accepting attitude. I believe that your life is as good as it is because you simply believe it can be.
