A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood

Those of us who live on two intersecting streets got together for a fourth of July weekend potluck Sunday evening. We were going to gather in the park but due to heat and humidity, we opted instead to meet at the parish center at the Catholic Church. Some attend that church; some don't. What we do all have in common is the pleasure in meeting our neighbors. We all brought something to share and we were ages 2 through 94, and as we were leaving we all agreed that we want to do this again, soon.

And that is what days like that should be all about!

Neighborhoods coming together for socializing is becoming rare, so I'm happy that your neighborhood is doing so. Take care.

Brian, work still goes on around me but my cat and I are living life as normally as possible.

Shammickite, life is definitely about interacting with others.

Rock Chef, the neighborhood get together brought joy to each of us. I hope we do it again soon.

Stephen, living in the midwest is reminding me the down home wholesome values are still alive and important.

How nice! Glad you had fun!
We get busy and often go a long time without really chatting with the neighbors. We usually have a 4th of July block party, but it ended up being cancelled this year - just doesn't feel right!

Abby, Have a mid July block party to have the neighbors stay in touch. When my kids were young, block parties were family fun times. At least once a week we would gather outside and play cards and kids would play and one of the neighbors would pull a TV cart out in the yard. We would have impromptu potluck. Those are good memories.

Wow. I haven't been to or seen a block party since I left the east coast. I find California in general to be a place where people work extremely long hours, drive extremely long, congested distances to and from their jobs, and have just enough energy left over to engage with their kids and then slump into bed. I can't wait to get back to the coast where people are lucky enough to take it a little easier and have time to get to know their neighbors. I envy your neighborly lifestyle!
