My First Grandchild

My first grandchild was born end of April, then six days later my second grandchild was born. My daughters delivered children 6 days apart.  Twenty-two years ago.

My grandson and I have been enjoying phone conversations and texting this year. The first time my grandson said he wanted to come out here to have some time with me, it took a while to digest. My first reaction was to tell him that there isn't anything for him to do out here, and that I am only around older people, that he would bored here.

Each time the subject was brought up, I realized that where I live, what I do, who I see in my everyday life is not the important thing, my grandson wants to come to spend some time with me in person.  Duh.

My apartment is not put back together and there is still work to be done here; however, my cat Lola and I are comfortable and living our normal life. It would be so sweet and loving to have time with my dear grandson. I left California over six years ago, so that is how long since I have been with him.

I find myself looking forward to seeing him and being around him, the grownup young man he is now. Soon.

Awww! This is such a heart-warming post CiCi. Your grandchildren are lucky to have you.

I know the void of not having the opportunity to spend a childhood with grandparents around and being pampered and spoiled by them.

Hope you have a great time with your grandson when he visits you :)

I look forward to learning more about this young man. When is he coming to visit? :-)

Feel honored that he wants to visit you. From what I've seen from others, it's usually the grandparent who asks the grandchildren to visit especially when they're older.

How wonderful that he wants to spend time with you. Our son is 34 and we're still waiting for grandchildren.

Aha! I'm glad his true reason for wanting to come visit dawned on you!

Grandchildren are the best.

I'm sure you'll find lots to do with a grandson who wants to come and stay with you. I live in a seniors area too, and my grandchildren LOVE coming here.... but then, they are 6, 5 and 2 x 3!

That's a great story and well told. It's so cool he is reaching out. I love it. He sounds like an amazing young man. I've met a few like that who just take people as people no matter age, gender, religion, etc. If they like you, they like you and all that other stuff just doesn't get in the way. I have one very special friend who really, we shouldn't be friends at all, but there we are, thick as thieves! We can learn a lot from these individuals. Can't wait to hear more about the visit and maybe see some pix!

When I went to visit my son in Ohio he kept telling me there's nothing to do there. It took him a while to understand that I didn't want to be entertained, I wanted to see HIM.
I love that your grandson wants to see YOU. Enjoy your time with him!
