Adoption Process

A 92 year old woman had a 2 year old cat. The woman became ill and went to hospital. The cat was looked after by the woman's children. The woman made her family promise to take care of her beloved cat if she was not able to. They promised her. Then the woman passed away.

The woman lived in the next city. I don't know her name but I am connected to her. I never knew her. Her children did not keep their promise to her. They dropped the cat at the Humane Society. I was in contact with the Humane Society looking for a cat.

That is how Lola and I became roommates. Lola came with a letter that said "Hi, my name is Lola. I am a lover", with the information about her. She was declawed, spayed, had her shots, loves to be brushed.

Her first night with me, I kept her in the pet carrier and sat down on the floor and talked to her. When she was ready to venture out, she got up and pushed on the door so I opened the door. She walked out and looked at me, meowed quietly, looked around the living room, then slowly walked into the bedroom and went under the bed. I pulled up the bed skirt a few times and encouraged her to come out but I let have her time. An hour and a half later, she came into to the kitchen to find me and talk to me. I brushed her and petted her and she meowed and I talked quietly. I slept so well that night with her on top of the comforter with her head on my leg. When I moved she adjusted and put her head back on my leg. We are a good fit. We are going to be just fine.

I send thanks out to the woman who loved her first. She must have taken very good care of Lola because Lola is calm, relaxed, regal. The woman's family was unable to keep their promise, but I will keep it for them. Does that make me a surrogate? I don't mind at all.

Lola came to live with me on Valentine's Day.

Get it, Lola the Lover?

I crocheted a ball for her to bat around on the wooden floor and am teaching her to play. Her first days with me were spent eating and sleeping. She will climb into my lap and rest her head on my arm and purr quietly. When my landlord informed me he was charging me $400 pet deposit, I told him I just wanted some joy in my life. I believe now that is what I received.

Good for you! Pets are such a wonderful companions. They don't care how we look, whether we're rich, or poor, old, or young. They just love us, unconditionally. Everyone deserves that!

I miss my pets!

Aw, thanks for giving me a nice perspective on cats - I needed it!

I hate it when people do that to relative's pets. How can they look themselves in the mirror?

Lola sounds happy with her new life, though. Looking forward to hearing more about her.

This is wonderful news. I am scared of c,a,t, but I am trying my level best to change that. Lola is really pretty.

She's so beautiful! And that deposit seems excessive to me, but Lola is worth it. I think somehow you two were meant to be together. I love the pictures.

It sounds like Lola has found a forever home with you and that you have found a forever friend. Whatever the woman's family didn't do that they should have done it sounds like things worked out just right.

Lola is beautiful and is indeed a lucky cat, though I know you feel you are the lucky one in this situation. I know you two will give so much to one another. I love how you honor and cherish that which is sent into your life. Most of us take too much for granted. Your writing is important because it reminds us not to do so...

It is really nice with Lola here. She has a quiet meow and hardly even meows really, and I like quiet. She is gentle and sweet.

I know this is different, Lola is an inside cat and not like the outside cats that live by you.

I decided to take the way of thinking that Lola is great here with me so when the relatives decided they could not keep her, it was all meant to be.

Lola is so gentle and calm. You would feel it if you were around her.

Lola adapts easily, isn't a nervous Mervus. She isn't afraid of the vacuum and she is used to be inside and has no interest in going outside. She likes music like I do.

I felt sorry for the family when I heard the story from the Humane Society and at the same time I am grateful that they cared enough about their mom's cat that they took her to the right place. Things are going great here.

Lola has already brought much into my life, besides her sweet nature and easy going manners, she is calm like I am and we both move slowly, no running or hurrying. I am helping her to find fun in playing with the toys I am making for her, so I can tell this is new to her. She is no trouble at all and she is clean and likes me to brush her.

What an absolutely BEAUTIFUL cat! I don't know all of the circumstances, but I know I could not drop a cat like that off at the humane society. But it sure worked out in your favor!

Sweet story, beautifully written.

I am so happy for you. I am so glad you followed up on her. (I could just slap her kids) You two sound like a perfect fit.

Good for you & good for Lola! She is a pretty girl! Perhaps the family had good reasons for bringing Lola to the HS but no matter, it was meant to be that she and you would find each other. Second chances. Blessings xoxo

What a wonderful Valentine present that beautiful Lola is. 'Looks like you've both found a perfect match.

So sad the family couldn't carry out their Mom's wishes but I'm thrilled you both found each other.

God bless ya sweetie and enjoy your new fluffy companion. :o)

Lola and were meant to be roomies, that I know. We get along like we have always been together. No wonder her previous owner loved her. She is calm and sweet and loving.

Her family missed out on a wonderful cat, but I am grateful I didn't.

I feel the same way, Ina. Lola and I were meant to be together. She is happy and content here. Our life is quiet and calm and we have fun together.

CiCi said...

The best way to describe her walk is regal. She is never in a hurry but she can play. She doesn't meow very often and when she does, it is very quiet.

CiCi said...

Thanks, Nezzy. Having Lola has made a big difference for me at home. We communicate!

CiCi said...

Thank you very much. We do indeed bring each other joy. I am blessed.

What a gorgeous cat! And, so nice too that she has very regal manners too. Enjoy, enjoy! Our Miss Pearl, the Purrball, has taken up a new sport now in our house -fishing! Trying her level best to figure out how to get in the little aquarium housing Maya's pet beta (Mike) and probably try to make a meal of him. Really fun and interesting to watch her contortions as she alternates between just watching him, or trying to wrap her paws around the fishbowl, to sitting atop it and looking in at the fish! And otherwise, like your Lola, Pearl is also a lovebug cat who lets the kids manhandle her without a sound or a scratch! So glad you got the cat as they are excellent companions on numerous levels, aren't they?

Lola looks like the best Valentine gift EVER. I'm so glad you found her, CiCi. She's beautiful and happens to look just like the cat I great with up!

There is a calmness about most cats that is so wonderful and relaxing. My mom has a cat that NEVER came out during the day-- only at night for about an hour of two, then back under the bed to hide. After my step-dad died, the cat just seemed to know Mom needed a little extra love and from then on, she's slept on her bed and is usually close by during the day too.

Cats are wonderful. Enjoy your new roomie.

Watching your Miss Pearl contemplate a beta meal must be fun to see. The only thing Lola shows curiosity for here are my plants in pots and the herbs on the window sill. She hasn't bitten into any yet but she sniffs them. Maybe this is her first time around plants. I have had some friends around her and she is nice around them and then loses interest in them. One friend was a bit intimidated with Lola's size, she said Lola is the biggest cat she has ever seen. I said, yeah, great huh, people won't accidentally step on her!

If I had to pick one attribute I like best about Lola is how calm she is. I have had some hyper cats in the past and that was nice, they played all the time and ran around the house. But Lola is peaceful and it is calming for me. I am so glad your mom's cat is showing some love now.

She's beautiful. I'm glad you found each other. It's funny to me, because my MIL has a battery-operated cat named Lola! :)

My mom is soon to lose her beloved Jimmy Cat, whom she adopted days after my dad passed away. Jimmy keeps her company and cuddles her at night; it's going to be tough.

Oh CiCi, I'm thrilled for you.. and for Lola. I believe you and she came into each others loves at just the right time. This is that start of something great. And she's just beautiful!

Lola is a beauty and she sounds like a wonderful companion. Adopted pets seem to come to us with an extra bit of love and affection. They know what it's like to be abandoned and they hold on extra tight. I think that's what makes them such loves!

Aww how wonderful. Lola has a beautiful new home with you!

Lola came with a letter from the family who dropped her off, which is why I am sure they had good intentions and tried to honor their promise to their mother to take care of Lola. The letter was special and I started a Lola file in my file cabinet and the letter is in there now.

I am sorry for your mom. Just knowing that her beloved pet will not be with her much longer would be painful. I hope she finds a way to get another pet or hobby or something to help with the adjustment.

CiCi said...

This is one time I am doing something just for me. If people are allergic to cats or don't like cats that is okay with me. I am the one who is with her and I like her. Previously I would have listened to what the majority of friends said and would worry about their comfort when they come to see me.

CiCi said...

Yes, Lola is appreciative and gentle. She likes my music playing and she sits next to me when I sit and crochet.

CiCi said...

Yes, this little hippie house is even happier with Lola here.

Yousei Hime said...

She's a beauty. You deserve each other. :D

CiCi said...

Yes, we do. She needed me as much as I needed her. We adjusted right away to each other and she is the sweetest nature cat I have ever had.
