Valentines Day Is For Everyone
We think we are still the young, agile couple; other people see this.
This dancing couple may be senior citizens but they are still having fun. I have about twenty years to be the age they are, but I plan on making the very most of each day along the way and be dancing and enjoying myself till I take the last breath on this earth.
This photo made me smile and helped me remember there is still romance and joy as people get older. Hopefully there will be some in my life.
"The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart." --Helen Keller
"I do not love you as if you were salt-rose, or topaz,
or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off.
I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul.
I love you as the plant that never blooms
but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers;
thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance,
risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body.
I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.
I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;
so I love you because I know no other way
than this: where I does not exist, nor you,
so close that your hand on my chest is my hand,
so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep."
--Love Sonnet XVII by Pablo Neruda
Happy Valentine's Day, everyone!

I don't see myself as young, or agile, but once in a while I have vague memories of being that way.
Age is all in the mind!
OK, sometimes me knees want to debate that, but I don't listen :-)
I am sure you will find love again, CiCi. Joy, you already have lots of that! And romance is highly overrated, if you ask me. I love these pictures, they put smiles on my face! :-)
Seeing older couples together and in love makes me smile so much! (unless the gent reminds me of my dad - that just makes me cry)
;) Valentine's Day yay! Used to celebrate it with my various lovers, heh heh heh. But as I grow older, I found out that we don't have to wait till the 14th of February to show our love.
Romance is always around, we just need to keep it alive.
Interesting how we see ourselves, usually not as others see us at all.
My knees are sturdier than my back.
Whether I find love again or not, I want to have joy. I agree with you that romance is overrated. Hollywood has done a number on us.
You are such a sweet sentimental woman, Liz. I too enjoy seeing older couples together. I have watched an older couple at the senior center become a couple. I see signs of that happening with another couple soon too. Sigh.
That is a good attitude, good for you to get it. Showing love can be in so many small things every day.
My dad is 88 and he told me he was dancing at a party last week. I hope I can do that at 88!
Great thoughts & images. One is only as old as they imagine themselves to be. Love is also respect, concern & caring for others. Romance only lasts so long.
Happy Valentine's Day!
PS Mr O is a good reader too but he does not read voraciously. When he wants to read a book he will read it from start to finish & does not put the book down at meals which does at times make me nuts.
Happy Valentine's Day CiCi!
Happy Valentine's day. It's nice to see that age doesn't always stop people from feeling young.
Stopping by to say Happy Valentine's Day!!!! Hope you had a good one!
Good for your dad. I hope I have zest for life when I am 88.
I like that you point out that love is respect, concern and caring for others.
Abby, thank you and I wish the same for you.
I am meeting people in their nineties who drive and play cards and go out to dinner and are such great examples to me.
I don't think of Valentine's Day like I did last year; however, I am enjoying each day more.
neruda is an excellent love poet....great choice....and romance only dies when we let it regardless of age...happy valentines cici
I am sure there will be romance and joy in your future!
The sonnet is beautiful. Thank you for sharing it.
The third stanza of the sonnet is my favorite part. Glad you like it too.
Another Neruda fan. Yay.
Hope you and your lovely wife had a special time together for Valentine's Day, but then, you pretty much have that every day, right? At least as much as you can both make it special.
