Sharing The Ride

One of my friends was telling some of us about the unique way her son and his friend checked off an item on their bucket lists.

My friend's son, who we will call Alex, apparently always wanted a Ford Mustang, one of the older ones in good condition. He and his wife, who we will call Cindy,  each have cars and the strain on the budget would be too much if they bought a car for recreation not just transportation.

Alex and Cindy have good friends, John and Liz, and Liz let it be known that she always wanted an older Mustang. The two couples decided to buy one car and share it. When the perfect car was found online, Liz flew out of state to drive the car home.

This has turned out to be the perfect solution. Each couple has the car every other month. They shared the purchase price and they share maintenance costs. Each couple has a car they can afford. Isn't that a great story? A car is a major purchase. I admire these two couples for finding a solution and honoring a commitment that brings joy to all of them. Wonder why other things in life are not solved this easily.

For many years it was a dream of mine to buy a 1965 Ford Mustang, install thick fluffy carpeting, have pin stripes down the side, and a sparkly clean engine. When I heard this story, I could so relate! Now I have to get an invitation to see this car.

Sweet car! Not sure I could share. Heck, I don't even like hubby driving my car. LOL!

Cool story. I love red cars and I notice that car colors have become very much alike and dull. I like the idea of sharing things, but I would be afraid to try it. It sounds like a good way to spoil a great friendship. It is hard enough to get along with family.

Ms.A, I know what you mean. Re-adjusting the seat and the mirrors every time someone else uses the car gets old.

R.J., That is why the story grabbed me. The fact that for several years these two couples have been able to share the car, take good care of it, and stick to the agreement shows what mature and honorable people they are.

That is a neat story, CiCi. I enjoyed learning that there are people who are mature enough to share something they all love. What a cool car!

DJan, exactly. I was so impressed with the fact that these couples found a way to fulfill dreams and to still get along. So many things in life are disruptive or envious or immature. People have trouble getting along with neighbors and other drivers on the road. So when I hear about people getting along and sharing it warms my heart.

Oh my goodness! That is my dream car. I always have wanted a 1964 1/2 Cherry red Mustang. Beautiful.

Kristina, way cool.
I have a red Kia Rio, just not the same thing! Some day I think I may have a really cool Mustang.

What a win-win situation for both couples. Its nice to here that they share and work together. Unfortunately that doesn't seem to always happen. It shows great maturity and openess between the four of them. Hope they have many wonderful times with their car!

These folks are very special if they can manage to successfully share a vintage mustang. Let us know how this works out.

I drove a 66 Mustang once... loved that ride!
So glad to hear a happy story!

The mother of one of the men is my friend and she says that the two couples have a routine that works great for them all. I was fascinated with her description of how they arrived at the decision to share the buy and share the ride. Amazing really.

Debby, yes indeed it is working smoothly for them.

Stephen, I know it has been a few years now that this sharing of the Mustang has been working for them. It turned out to be the perfect solution.

Anne, I know you must have enjoyed driving that 66 Mustang. What a fun experience.

What a clever idea and so cool that they could make that work. Not everyone could.

Cool story and that is a dream car. When I was in college, my roommate and I shared a car.

That's a beauty! I'm pretty possessive over my cars all the time so I could never do that, but wow, I'm impressed that they can!

CiCi said...

Brian, wouldn't that be awesome if I could.
I know it just a car, but geez.

Hilary, yes, I admire these two couples immensely.

oceangirl, you know how to share a car already. I think you could get along with anybody.

Liz, it is interesting to me to know so many people who feel as you do about their cars. A car is a big investment.

What a unique solution. Where there's a will there's a way!

That's great that they are such good friends that they can share such a major purchase and enjoy a luxury they couldn't otherwise afford.

I have fond memories of driving my dad's Mustang. Too fast, of course, but that speed lingers in my memory several decades later. Nice post, and I'm glad I found you again, Cici.
