Never Run With Scissors

I can count on one hand the number of times I ran in the last year. And those were necessary, not for exercise or fun.  One time was with a friend who was having a stroke so I ran a half block to find her sister and ran back when her sister wasn't there. I do walk however. I am not a couch potato, partly because I don't watch TV and don't watch movies all day either on Netflix. The most I walked was when I was visiting my son and daughter-in-law in January. We did a lot of walking in the downtown area. It is so cold and slippery here at home I won't walk outside right now. Just to and from the car, waddling out the front door in many layers of clothes and squeezing into the car and praying the heater will jump start for me. I even have a scarf over my face so I don't have to breathe the cold air which makes my sinuses hurt. I am beginning to understand why some of my older friends don't go out much in winter.

smiles...it can get pretty brutal out...yesterday was a nice respite...mile enough not to need a coat, even with all the snow on the ground...

Every time I run for any distance at all, my left knee complains for days. So, it's walking for me. And I am also beginning to understand why older people like to stay indoors when it's really cold outside. :-)

No doubt, most people wouldn't go out but do so because they have to. We are thinking about the rest of the country and their harsh conditions. Yesterday, it was in the mid-eighties here. Sounds nice, but I went to Trader Joe's a few days ago to get a bag of frozen peas and they were out. Said they wouldn't be in till Friday and it would be a month till the organic peas came in. They sighted our drought as the cause of the shortage. We are also starting to see food prices rising. One wonders what is to come...

I never jog/run anymore, I'd rather ride my bike

I think it would something as drastic as the event you describe to get me running, too. But I do love to walk, walked for miles in Brasil. Between the heat and the hills, lost 8 kg and feel so much better for it. I have no concept of the sort of cold you experience and am happy to stay that way!

This has been a brutal winter for so much of the country all I can do is shout "enough already!" every time I hear the weather on the news! Really. It's just too much.

I got a pedometer wrist thing for Christmas that tracks my steps. I had no idea how little I walked in a typical day-- and I thought I was pretty active. Now I'm moving much more and find myself taking the stairs whenever I can.

I caught up on your posts and was thrilled to hear you had such a great time in Hawaii with your son and daughter-in-law. 17 days is a nice long trip with plenty of time to adjust to the time change and see all the sights. I'm glad you were able to make so many memories.

I've noticed that everthing is more physically difficult when it's cold. It really takes a toll on the elderly!
Love the saying, but I'm glad you broke your "abstinence" for your friend having the stroke!

This too shall pass. I'm hoping for an early spring in a few weeks. Your area must be snowed in this time of the year. Our kids like veggie gardening and love the cold weather which kills all the pests that attack the veggies--briefly anyway.

I keep thinking I should go do some kind of exercise outside. And then I look out the window and think, "Nope." No way I could run in all this snow and cold anyway.

I guess that a plus to having to wear lots of layers is that if you DO slip over it hurts less when you land!

That is a terrific sign. I think I will steal it. Of course, everyone who knows me, knows I don't run, either.
